"So... I don't want to sound prejudice... but are New York drivers as bad as everyone says?" I asked nervously.
"Oh hands down," Ashley said without hesitation. "They're also not very open or warm. We're from Nebraska and we're used to saying hello and talking to everyone. It's not like that here."
As far as interactions went, I agreed a bit but we had already witnessed far too many friendly encounters. As for the drivers, it made me feel better to hear from a Rochester graduate that yes, the drivers were god-awful. Just the day before, I'd been flipped off and yelled at and brushed and "Americuh'd".
Josh and I said goodbye to the pleasant little family and headed out. True to my word today, I never left the 1st gear for the entire ride to Fairport. Much to the annoyance of Josh, I reminded him the whole ride just how good a friend I was.
The ride to the Erie Canalway Path was normal. I found a McDonalds, I had ice cream, we watched Lake Ontario move, ect. Most importantly, I found an old pair of sunglasses on the side of the road in perfect condition. I love them and will wear them forever. In the town of Williamson, we found wild raspberries and gobbled them up.
It sucks how tired I am... but I am exhausted. Tonight, I'm a dead man.
I can tell you that we're staying in Rochester with a guy named Mike who may be the greatest person I have ever met. I might be him in the future if all goes planned.
Stories in pictures...
Joseph Smith and his religion were born in Palmyra, NY. I only have negative things to say about that.
Josh was sad for the first half of the day. I was sad for the second half of the day.
Riding along the Erie Canal, we met Robert's friend. Remember Robert? From yesterday? Well his roommate Tay works the canal in Macedon. We met him... and he was kind of a dick.
We biked with Mike, his girlfriend Brooke and maybe four other friends through a couple bars in downtown Rochester, NY. They were the greatest humans ever, hand-carved by an omnipotent creator. Bless em.
I've never been in a bicycle gang... but it was everything I'd dreamed of. We ruled the streets.
Night.
